High jinks and hilarity mark this delightful joint venture by two bestselling authors who certainly know their way around comedy. This humorous caper is stuffed with characters who have unique perspectives and thoroughly wacky charm. It's rib-tickling good fun.

Tending bar while going to college is working out pretty well for Cate Madigan. It helps that she sublets an apartment from drag queen Marty Longfellow, who sings at the bar where she works. Just before he leaves on a business trip to Aruba, Marty starts getting a lot of weird phone calls. While he won't explain what's going on, Marty does send a not-so-fearsome bull mastiff named Beast to Cate for protection.

Cate, meanwhile, finds herself attracted to a new customer, Kellen McBride. Of course, it's too good to be true. It appears that Marty's been a bad boy and both Kellen and some thugs are after valuable stolen goods. For Kellen, this straightforward case takes a hard left turn when he finds himself enchanted with both Cate and her slobbering, oversized puppy. (ST. MARTIN'S, Apr., 281 pp., $7.99)
