RT Rating

Alward’s first Jewell Cove novel is a promising, creative and deeply emotional homecoming journey that will captivate readers with its layers of secrets and revelations. The small-town setting is beautifully described, and the unconventional relationship of the main couple is touchingly realistic. Their grief and loss are heartrending, but their journey together highlights their indomitable inner strength.

When Abby Foster inherits the crumbling Foster estate from a family member she’s never heard of, she feels like all eyes in the small coastal town of Jewell Cove, Maine, are on her. All she wants is to sell the house and move on — until an unearthed mystery from her past forces her to stay and learn the truth about her heritage. Tom Arseneault is Jewell Cove’s best contractor and he’s desperate for the chance to work on the Foster estate. But when he meets headstrong, fiercely independent Abby, Tom realizes a desire of a whole new kind. (ST. MARTIN'S, May, 320 pp., $7.99)
