Werewolf Samantha Carstairs has two problems; the first involves her friend Dr. Annie Cryer and some secret research. The second involves Sam's hormones and a sexy human named Noah Baker, who is recruiting for the army amongst the werewolf Others. Against her better judgment, Sam has agreed to keep Annie's concerns from their alpha werewolf for a few more days.

Meanwhile, Noah is discovering that his latest mission is beginning to smell bad. He dislikes deceiving his friends and fears this mission will screw up any chance of a relationship with Sam. Dark forces are at work, and keeping everything straight is problematic, but with Sam on the line, Noah will do whatever is necessary. (ST. MARTIN'S, Nov., 352 pp., $6.99)
