Freaky and interesting, this debut showcases what happens when technology goes too far. Lancaster writes in an authentic teen voice, effectively creating a Matrix-like world. Sci-fi fans will enjoy the book, which includes hilarious footnotes from the “upgraded” future.

When Kyle and three others volunteer to be hypnotized at a local talent show, instead of waking up to a laughing audience, they discover the world has stopped. People are acting bizarre, and nothing can explain why no forms of communication work. Kyle narrates his otherworldly experience on cassette tapes, while those of the future try to analyze the meaning behind his experience.
