The vampire skirmishes continue in the latest book of Black's dark and compelling series. While this hero and heroine are outmatched power-wise, Black's excellent characterization reveals a complexity of motivation, keeping things interesting and intense.

A vampire who drinks human blood, Drake has not been welcome
in Eli's Philadelphia Guardian society. Since Eli's son Gabriel is the new master of Baltimore, Drake decides to try his luck there. But shortly after his arrival, all hell breaks loose when Gabriel is kidnapped by powerful born vampire Brigitte. She wants Drake to act as intermediary to a European vampire delegation sent to capture Brigitte and kill Gabriel.

Fledgling vampire Faith has been tasked with trying to seduce information out of Drake. Faith wants only to escape, so she's willing to look for new allies. When murders start occurring, Drake has his hands full, since no one is showing
all their cards.
