You had me at “steampunk western.” This reviewer was bowled over by the concept and thrilled that The Hunter is also a well-written story with characters I can’t wait to spend more time with. Can’t wait for more of those diabolically delicious Jackson brothers.

Chosen to hunt the supernatural, brothers Colt, Winchester and Remington Jackson use steam-powered devices to blast their way across the frontier. Colt has discovered a rift in the worlds, causing a horrible rise in the demonic population. To close it, he will have to do the unthinkable and summon a demon to assist him. The demon he summons ends up being a gorgeous succubus who’s willing to bargain in order to become human again. With her help, Colt gets a lot farther than he and his steel-plated horse could have alone. But will their adventure be worth putting his soul on the line? (ZEBRA, Nov., 352 pp., $6.99)
