The Hunter features private investigator Wyatt Hunt in a case that quickly becomes personal. Instead of investigating a stranger, Hunt finds himself looking into the past of his biological family. The suspense plot is well developed, but the way information about his adoption just falls into his lap seems a bit unrealistic.

After receiving a disturbing text indicating that his biological mother was murdered, Hunt begins an investigation into his own background. Hunt’s parents adopted him as a toddler and were given little information about his birth family. As he follows the clues, Hunt discovers that his biological parents were involved in the mass suicide of the cult led by Jim Jones in Jonestown. However, those dangers didn’t end in 1978. Hunt soon finds himself in a labyrinth of secrecy and danger that may jeopardize his life. (DUTTON, Jan., 400 pp., $26.95)
