In this edge-of-your-seat ride through the small town of Millers Kill, N.Y., violence travels rapidly and tensions escalate into an explosive showdown. Police Chief Russ Van Alstyne and Episcopalian Reverend Clare Fergusson work together to solve a complex mystery while also dealing with their feelings for each other. Danger and violence contrast with good, strong, emotionally deep characters to make this a great novel.

Russ is healing from his wife's death while trying to keep his distance from Clare, the woman he truly loves. Meanwhile, Hadley Knox, seeking solace at her grandfather's, has moved to town and takes a job with the police.

When a van carrying illegal immigrants is shot at and crashes, it sets in motion a chain of events that uncovers a lethal crime ring operating in Millers Kill. When several Mexican men are found dead, fears escalate, and Clare and Russ must work quickly to unravel a mystery involving a Mexican gang, bad drug deals and a local family
of good ol' boys with not-so-good
intentions. (ST. MARTIN'S MINOTAUR, Jun., 336
