Book Review

I'D KILL FOR THAT
by Marcia Talley, ed.

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Anthology

With the seamless way this story melds together, you'd never know more than one author had her hand in this serial novel. But 13 well-known scribes contributed to this book, about what can happen when greed takes over people's lives.

Henry Drysdale started gated community Gryphon Gate to keep the affluent in and poor out. His ex, Vanessa, is out to ruin all of that by developing a condo next door. The fight for and against the condo is so intense that when a body is found on the golf course, there are too many suspects for Chief Diane Robards to count. Soon more bodies turn up.

Gayle Lynds, Rita Mae Brown, Marcia Talley, Lisa Gardener, Linda Fairstein and Kay Hooper are among the contributors. Kathy Reichs' chapter left me wanting more. Julie Smith, Heather Graham and Jennifer Crusie are laugh-out-loud funny. (Crusie can really turn a phrase and make a seemingly innocent sentence hilarious.) Tina Wainscott and Anne Perry produce surprises, and Katherine Neville finishes this crazy story in a convincing, satisfying way. This is a great way to catch up with favorite authors and meet some new ones. (May, 272 pp., $23.95)
