Readers who are new to the Curse of the Templars series will find this book easy to follow and hard to put down. The plot flows smoothly, with plenty of historical detail grounding the supernatural element and adding to its believability. The tug-of-war involving the hero’s heart will keep you on pins and needles, and the intense action will leave you reeling.

Protecting the eight Holy Relics is no problem for loyal immortal knight Farran de Clare. But he’s less thrilled by the prospect of pledging an oath of loyalty to his predestined seraph, whoever she may be — even if it would save him from the taint of a curse that would make him a demon of Azazel. When he’s tasked with looking out for attractive scientist (and committed atheist!), Noelle Keane, Farran thinks of it as just a job. It is only when Noelle’s life hangs by a thread that he is forced to come to grips with his true feelings. (TOR, Oct., 448 pp., $7.99)
