Kenyon’s imagination is amazing and her ability to control the various plot/character threads in her Byzantine Dark-Hunter world is more than impressive. The Chronicles of Nick series is especially intriguing since its core premise is the attempt to rewrite history and prevent major events from the Dark-Hunter series from happening. Young Nick continues to be an engaging and wise-ass character, keeping readers invested in his desperate attempt to change the future.
Learning from your older self that, unless events change, you are destined to destroy the world and everyone you love in it is pretty heavy stuff for a 15-year-old to take in, but Nick Gautier, in his usual wise-cracking way, is coping. With the help of his demon bodyguard, Caleb, and Kody, his kind-of- girlfriend, Nick manages to survive high school, but they are soon in the middle of an ugly battle when insidious lies about various students start to appear on a mysterious website. As Nick tries to get to the bottom of things, he comes under attack from those who would want to take and destroy his burgeoning powers. Discerning friend from foe has never been more difficult! (ST.
