A quick favorite for any Hunger Games fan. In this realistic, futuristic, banished landscape, you’ll fall in love with the characters and the plot. Despite a dry middle, this is one book that’s worth the read.

Lane’s always wondered what’s behind the wall that covers their little city. When she has a chance to find out, she goes for it. Of course, she didn’t realize that flying an airplane over the wall would get her in so much trouble. But then she learns the truth: her father is a fetcher who goes to the other side to get things for others, if they have the right amount of cash. Now, with the government in on the action, Lane must go over the wall to find her father — or else. (SCHOLASTIC, Oct., 384 pp., $17.99, ISBN: 9780545370998, HC, 12 & Up)
