Book Review

by Virginia Henley

Genre: Historical Romance
Setting: Elizabethan England

2004 Best British Isle-Set Historical Romance Nominee

RT Rating

Henley paints a vivid, accessible portrait of Elizabeth I's court through the eyes of Catherine Spencer, Elizabeth's dress designer.

Patrick Hepburn is as ruggedly handsome as the Highlands, and with his
second sight he knows King James of Scotland will become King of England upon Elizabeth's death. He therefore plays his hand very carefully—until he meets Catherine.

Though their loyalties and ambitions differ, there is no denying the insatiable desire that flares between them. Their love places them in the center of one intrigue after another as the monarchs try to arrange their lives. Yet abduction, threats of imprisonment and losing their claims to a fortune will not separate them.

Passion and sensuality are perfectly
balanced with history in this finely crafted novel by one of the queens of the genre. Henley gives her readers what they crave:
a juicy, hot book with unforgettable characters. VERY SENSUAL (Nov., 400 pp., $6.99)
