Michaels’ first Mistress Matchmaker novel is an eloquent, sensuous delight. Her couple’s steamy introduction develops into heartfelt revelations and frank discussions about their history, as well as their positions within a society unable to forgive transgressions or forget past sins. Though erotic entanglements abound, the honest connection that forms is not easily forgotten and sets the bar high for the series to come.

Desperate to support her ailing mother and out of ways to earn a respectable living, Lysandra Keates turns to Vivien Manning, London’s most notorious courtesan, to find her a wealthy protector. Within days, she is introduced to Viscount Andrew Callis, who will train her to become the ideal mistress. After years of doing penance for the man he once was, and for death of his wife and infant son, Andrew has no intention of giving his heart to anyone else. But a single look at Lysandra, and he agrees to introduce her to the pleasures of the flesh, never dreaming that a month could change so much. (SAMHAIN, Jun., 264 pp., $15.00)
