Cremer once again proves her ability to build an intriguing world, using an exciting and less common concept in YA: alternate history. The historical relevancy here is spot-on. What if the colonies didn’t win the Revolutionary War? What would steampunk-era America look like? But a mysterious new exile invites dangers that test their fleeting ability to survive in the imperial British Empire. (PHILOMEL, Apr., 336 pp., $18.99, ISBN: 9780399159626, HC, 13 & Up)
