The duo’s story is about being true to one’s love and one’s dreams, and letting God use the talents He gives each of us. They expertly incorporate the history of the Mississippi showboat era with the origins of the Pinkerton detective agency while giving us a solid romance infused with mystery set atop a strong spiritual message.

David Foster, a detective with the Pinkerton Agency, is sent back home on assignment to Natchez, the hometown he left behind along with his childhood love, Jasmine. Jasmine pursues her dreams of acting by joining a showboat. David feels her dreams are taking her away from God and takes a job on the same showboat to watch over her. Through tragic events, David and Jasmine must face both spiritual matters and matters of the heart. (BARBOUR, Jul., 320 pp., $12.99)
