Baker’s latest novel set in Sweetland, Md., is all about plans that go awry for the better — and for love. Sweet storytelling and a nostalgia-filled plot are the strengths of this story. Complete with huge doses of charm, romance and humor, this is one delightful read.

Beautiful but fragile Heaven Montgomery shows up at Preston Cantrell’s door wanting to adopt the puppy that was bequeathed to him by his late grandmother. Preston, instantly captivated by Heaven, puts his plan to return to Baltimore on hold. Emotionally scarred by a tragic accident, Heaven needs the puppy to help her deal with post-traumatic stress. She was supposed to return to Boston with her new dog, but her plan slowly changes as she becomes enamored with Sweetland, its unique charm and its hometown boy, Preston. (ST.
