Taking a break from hockey, Martin turns her attention to the restaurant side of the Dante family. A warmhearted romance with in-depth characters, this story will leave you satisfied, salivating and ready to try one the recipes included. Martin serves up a real treat.

Deciding that her dream of being a chef and restaurant owner will never come true in Paris, Vivi undertakes a complete change of venue and moves to the Bensonhurst neighborhood of Brooklyn. There, she finds the storefront of her dreams, across the street from Dante's, the neighborhood Italian place. Eager to settle into her new environment, Vivi introduces herself to the folks at Dante's, where she meets Anthony, the chef and half-owner.

The road to romance is not smooth. Anthony, a widower whose police officer wife was killed more than a year ago, quickly begins sparring, debating and cooking with Vivi. It takes time, honesty and some really great meals to reach the sweet at the end. (Berkley Sensation, Jan., 350 pp, $7.99)
