Katie Wallace reluctantly hangs a self-portrait at the café where she works. Soon, a man who keeps to the shadows of the night approaches her. She can't help but be drawn to this handsome man and, before she knows it, she is involved in an affair that both enthralls and scares her.

Although Katie joins Cain in the shadows of his world, she knows that she must bring him into the light of hers if their relationship is to survive.

This pleasant and well-paced read is sensual and romantic. Cain and Katie are compelling characters, and the lessons they teach each other are timeless. Cain does come off as rather abrupt, and it would have been nice if it was explained why he was so harsh. (dl $5.95)
