KEEP HOLDING ON
Bullying, the deserved topic du jour, is at the heart of Colasanti’s moving novel, capturing the heroine’s misery while padding it with a nice measure of spirit, resourcefulness and hope. This is an important, earnest book that doesn’t try too hard to make a point.
Noelle has been relying on herself for as long as she can remember. Her mother is neglectful and her friends, save for one, abandoned her the minute they realized she’s broke. Taunts from her classmates are getting worse, and most of her teachers turn a blind eye — except for one who takes an interest, determined to make her realize she’s not alone.
