Garlock continues the story of Stay a Little Longer character Charlotte as she becomes a schoolteacher in Oklahoma. It’s familiar stomping grounds for Garlock, who understands the beauty, harshness and history of the state. She takes readers back in time with her simple prose and likable characters, making them able to believe they are witnesses to the story. Not only is Garlock a premier Americana writer, but she is one who touches chords in readers’ hearts.

Moving to Oklahoma is a big step for Charlotte Tucker, but she will have her own schoolhouse and a chance for independence while boarding with rancher John Grant. Charlotte just begins fitting in when a series of accidents on the ranch appear to be aimed at ruining Grant. When suspicion falls on her new friend Owen Wallace, Charlotte is determined to help clear him, but has no idea of Owen’s secret. After their mother’s death, Owen and his twin sister Hannah began searching for their father; the man who raped and abandoned their mother. Owen is convinced that man is Grant. Even when Charlotte is attacked, she maintains her faith in Owen. As the heat rises so does the danger and with a tornado approaching, secrets are exposed. But will it be too late?
