It took the author seven years to write this novel, and it’s well worth the wait. Readers will be transported from current times back to WWII in this touching tale. The characters are loosely based on actual people, and readers will not soon forget them or their story.

Daniel Horowitz, a gifted violin virtuoso, would rather play baseball than perform in packed concert halls. But he knows how important it is to his family, especially his grandfather, Simon. All his life, he has heard the history of his family and the rare 1742 Guarneri del Gesu violin they once possessed, but he doesn’t understand the importance of it. Will David finally realize why his family has pushed him so hard, and will Simon be reunited with the family’s treasure and be able to finally let go of the past? (Morrow, Jun., 384 pp., $14.99)
