Pitcher is one of the sharpest and most original voices in teen literature. From the very start, Ketchup Clouds is absolutely engrossing and entirely out of the norm. Zoe’s story emerges in tantalizing fits and starts, and is ultimately tragic, moving and wonderfully told.

Zoe has a story to tell. It’s a story she needs to confess, but it’s about death, love and betrayal — who better to spill to than someone who knows a thing or two about crimes of passion? In a bizarre pen pal setup, Zoe divulges her biggest secrets, detail by detail, to Stuart Harris, a Texas death row inmate. (LITTLE, BROWN, Nov., 272 pp., $18.00, ISBN: 9780316246767, HC, 12 & Up)
