Author(s):

What starts off with an amazing premise quickly becomes mired in improbability and violence. The protagonist wants to be the antihero, but his illogical decisions and angst come across as annoying rather than endearing. Klavan has written some amazing books over his stellar career, but this is not one of them.

An NYPD officer named Dan Champion grows obsessed with bringing down a criminal known as the Fat Woman. His pursuit of justice wears down his mind to the point where he begins taking drugs to function. He begins imagining a little boy and a beautiful woman whom he falls in love with. He knows they are imaginary, but he can’t shake his feelings. Three years later, he’s sober. Champion gets a call to a crime scene and realizes the imaginary woman he loved is the victim.
