The Alexander writing team moves to the new Missouri location of River Dance for their latest novel. The medical drama is top notch. Doriann is an endearing character, and readers will admire her spunk and creativity. Parts of the plot that deal with past events might leave the reader feeling lost because the characters know what happened but the reader doesn't.

Dr. Jama Keith returns to her hometown of River Dance to work in the new medical clinic. She's hiding some secrets about the past, but the residents welcome her with open arms. She avoids Terell Mercer, who's still upset that she broke off their relationship. When Terell's niece, Doriann, is kidnapped, Jama joins him in the search. (STEEPLE HILL, Jan., 365 pp., $13.95)
