Graham's vampire stories are among her most intense and stirring, and this one is no exception. Some of the details may be a little murky, but the power of the narrative and the delicious Bryan make them easy to overlook. Spooky, sexy and satisfying.

Back in New Orleans after attending a conference in Romania, psychologist Jessica Fraser knows there will be repercussions from an incident at a "vampire party" there, but she has no idea how serious they'll become -- until she meets professor Bryan MacAllistair, a guest at the BandB she calls home.

Something about him is achingly familiar, and it's not long before Jessica learns why. An ancient like herself, Bryan is a warrior seeking the enemy she sensed in Romania -- an evil creature known as the Master. Joining forces, Jessica and Bryan prepare for the ultimate battle, hoping against hope that both will yet again survive. (MIRA, Sep., 400 pp., $7.99)
