In Shayne’s latest novel, readers are thrown into a whirlwind of suspense, romance and danger. A strong setup in the beginning, an intricate plot and authentic characters makes this story one compelling read.

Dr. Carrie Overton has a secret that she has been keeping for 16 years regarding her son. The sudden discovery of the true identity of a woman murdered all those years ago threatens to expose Carrie, as the authorities try to find the murder victim’s missing child. In the meantime, Gabriel Cain arrives in town with a purpose — to find the son he never knew he had. His many questions around town begin to threaten Carrie’s secret. Though she doesn’t trust Gabriel, she finds herself falling for him while trying to keep the past hidden. (MIRA, Sep., 400 pp., $7.99)
