Setting: 1381 Bohemia and London

Rock starts with an unusual setting -- Bohemia -- and makes it work. Her character-building skills give us a hero and heroine who are deeply emotional and engaging.

Sir Tristan Carlisle spies a bewitching woman in the forest while
on his way to escort the princess of Bohemia to England for a royal wedding. His thoughts are filled with images of the dark-haired, green-eyed wench -- and he's shocked to find her among the princess's party when he arrives at court.

Arabella Rowan accompanies Anne, the Bohemian princess, against her wishes. Then Tristan tells her he thinks she's an imposter. Both are plagued with doubts as they explore their
feelings for one another. They work together to find the truth of Arabella's parentage and to fight the superstition shadowing Arabella's skill as a healer. (Harlequin, Mar., 288 pp., $5.99)
