Jacqueline "Jack" Rooney has seen her share of violence as a boxing promoter. But when her friend is murdered, leaving behind a young child, Jack is introduced to an uglier kind of violence. Now it's up to her and her makeshift family of men, who know more about boxing than children, to keep the girl safe. Erica Orloff sets the book in the interesting world of Vegas boxing and develops a likeable heroine. But Knockout (2) has little emotional depth in its simplistic relationships, and one major plot twist is hard to swallow because it isn't supported by consistent characterization.
