LADY KILLER (3) by Kathleen Creighton: Cory Pearson has spent years searching for his siblings, and now private detective Holt Kincaid has located a sister in Colton, Texas. With Cory unavailable, Holt calls Tony Whitehall, Cory's best friend, when he learns that Brooke Fallon Grant has been arrested for her ex-husband's murder. When they meet, the confirmed bachelor is surprised by his reaction. Brooke has troubles galore, but there's no denying she feels a lot better with Tony around. This addition to the Taken series doesn't feel as integrated into the overall structure as the earlier stories. While Brooke seems a bit underdeveloped, it's a different story with the somewhat unconventional hero who drives the narrative. When he's front and center, the story comes to life.
