Davis hits a grand slam with her new historical romance series, Prairie Dreams, which has romance and mystery, with some thrills thrown in. The characters are well rounded and the hero has grit and determination.

Elise Finster is lady’s maid to Lady Anne Stone. They have traveled from England to the Wild West to search for Lady’s Anne’s missing uncle, who is the new Earl of Stoneford. If they are not successful, their futures are in dire straits. Elise has caught the attention of Eb Bentley, the scout on their wagon train. Eb does not have the time or the patience to deal with greenhorns, especially women. But as they follow lead after lead, Eb has to admit Elise is proving herself to be quite the capable frontierswoman. Maybe there is something worth pursuing. (BARBOUR, Oct., 320 pp., $12.99)
