McKay keeps the energy moving in her sequel to The Farm. She pairs a fast-moving story with dark and interesting characters, and you’ll eagerly be turning pages. The only drawback is that each turn of the page brings a different character’s point of view, breaking the story’s rhythm.
Twin sisters Mel and Lily thought the worst was behind them. But as they adjust to the different roads their lives have taken them on, the danger around them grows. Mel is slowly becoming used to her new vampire abilities and the changes they create in her. Meanwhile, Lily is trying to survive one day at a time at the rebellion base camp when an attack weakens the camp defenses and has Lily seeking safety in Canada. But Lily will need her skills, instincts — and her sister — when she is betrayed by someone close to her. (BERKLEY, Nov., 432 pp., $9.99, ISBN: 9780425264126, PB, 18 & Up)
