Book Review

THE LAST ECHO
by Kimberly Derting

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal

RT Rating

Missing person locator Violet is back in the next installment of the Body Finder series. Derting is a masterful writer, expertly ratcheting up the suspense and creepy quota. While there are moments where the reader might question just how effective Violet and the rest of her psychic team are — they don’t actually help save anyone in the course of the story — the novel is so well executed, this detail can be somewhat overlooked.

: For the first time in her life, Violet doesn’t feel like a freak. Work- ing with a team of psychically gifted teenagers to track down murderers and locate missing bodies, she finally feels like she belongs. But with this new team comes a host of questions and quandaries. For instance, who exactly is she working for? And who are her teammates, especially the aloof Rafe, who seems to both like and dislike her.

As Violet falls deeper in love with her boyfriend Jay, she must also contend with new and surprising feelings for Rafe. And there’s another interested party who has terrifying plans for all of his new “girlfriends.” (HARPERCOLLINS, Apr., 369 pp., $17.99, ISBN: 9780062082190, HC, 14 & Up)
