LAST OF THE RAVENS
LAST OF THE RAVENS (4.5) by Linda Winstead Jones: Four years after a car accident killed her sister, Miranda Lynch desperately needs a break from her job as a consultant who speaks to ghosts to solve crimes. Miranda heads to a cabin in the Tennessee mountains, where she meets Brennus Korbinian, the last of a rare breed who can transform into a flock of 77 ravens at will. Miranda learns she's the one woman who can be Bren's mate, thus continuing the Korbinian race, but the two are captured by the Order of the Cahir, a group determined to control -- or kill -- the "monsters" of the world. Jones combines a novel mythology with a captivating, well-written tale. She creates a believable mythology for a particular form of shapeshifter, and Bren's and Miranda's feelings are very real.
