Twelve-year-old Carissa Cooper disappears one night while fetching a business ledger from the family sawmill not far from their home. Miles away in another town, her aunt Noelle senses something has happened to Carissa. When her phone call to check goes unanswered, Noelle spends the entire night in prayer. The next morning, family friend Nathan Trask shows up to tell her Carissa is missing. Will they find her before it's too late? Or has the Cooper family curse struck again?

Alexander's latest installment in the Hideaway series is filled with action, intrigue and fascinating medical situations. The exploration of whether a gift of intuition is from God gives added dimension to an already exciting story. Noelle's struggle with her past makes her character realistic, and readers will relate to her trouble accepting God's forgiveness. The romance plot is slim, but the mystery and suspense more than make up for it. (Jun., 336 pp., $12.95)
