On her 45th birthday and after 25 years of marriage, Lara Lewis realizes that her doctor husband, Bill, is having an affair with a colleague. Not only that, but both doctors are traveling over to China for an extended "business" trip. Depressed and hurt, Lara decides to spend some time at their beach house in Carmel.

When Bill calls from China to cancel their long-planned second honeymoon trip to France, Lara realizes that her marriage may be over. As she tries to cope with this devastating new knowledge, Lara meets handsome contractor Dan Holland.

After hiring Dan to repair the beach house, Lara finds herself attracted and fascinated by him. To her surprise, Dan seems equally fascinated by Lara, whose self-esteem is so low that she can't imagine a 32-year-old man would find her sexy and attractive.

On the spur of the moment, Lara decides she will still take that second honeymoon to France, but instead of her husband, she asks Dan to accompany her on the trip.

Is Lara's view of love and marriage colored by her memories of her first trip to this romantic city? With all the obstacles and issues separating them, are Dan and Lara destined to be soulmates?

THE LAST TIME I SAW PARIS is a wonderful voyage depicting one woman's struggle to regain her sense of self-worth and identity. Elizabeth Adler always excels at bringing vivid and lifelike characters into being. (Jun., 296 pp., $6.99) Hardcover published Spetember 2001.
