McGuire just keeps getting better and better. Toby Daye is one of those rare UF protagonists who can learn from her mistakes and occasionally hold off on running headlong into danger. This is a tightly plotted and fast-paced read.
Toby Daye has finally made peace with the world of Faerie — and then she finds out that one of her dearest friends, the undine Lily, has been poisoned and is dying. When her liege lord Sylvester Torquill’s wife, Luna, also falls ill, Toby knows it’s not a coincidence, and that someone from her past is back. Oleander de Merelands was one of the individuals responsible for Toby’s four years spent as a fish. However, Toby is the only one who knows that she’s returned — and no one believes her, instead believing that her changeling blood has finally driven her mad. Toby needs to get to to the bottom of what’s going on, else things will turn out very badly for her. (DAW, Mar., 400 pp., $7.99)
