After taking a public stand against a heartless and powerful race horse owner, a talented but headstrong trainer, Alec MacKenna, finds himself struggling to maintain his career. Luckily, his old friend Winnie Tarlington hires him to train a Kentucky Derby prospect, Legends Lake.

But this talented horse has been traumatized by someoneor something in the past, and now exhibits dangerous behavior on the track. Winnie suggests that Alec take the horse back to its breeder in Ireland to help eliminate its dangerous behaviors. Alec reluctantly agrees and drags his 15-year-old stepdaughter Zoe with him.

Kate OSullivan is still running her successful Irish stud farm, in spite of her now estranged husband, Cadel. With him currently out of the picture, Kate has kept busy working and raising her two young children. The arrival of Alec, Zoe and Legends Lake complicates Kates already complex life.
