Book Review

LENDING A PAW
by Laurie Cass

Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Amateur Sleuth

RT Rating

While the premise of Cass’ novel might seem silly at first, Lending a Paw is a pleasurable, funny read. Minnie is a delight as a heroine, and Eddie could make even a staunch dog-lover more of a cat fan. This great mystery only suffers from one flaw: The murderer revealed at the end isn’t a total surprise.

Minnie can’t shake Eddie, the cat who followed her home one day and refused to leave. He even manages to sneak onto her bookmobile for its inaugural trip around the county and becomes the most popular feature of the traveling library. But at the last stop Eddie sprints out of the truck and leads Minnie to the body of a local man — the person who gifted Minnie her beloved bookmobile. Now Minnie and Eddie must work together to find out who killed him. (OBSIDIAN, Dec., 352 pp., $7.99)
