Genre: Mystery/Suspense/Thriller, Mystery, Private Investigator

RT Rating

A lot has happened to Boston P.I. Carlotta Carlyle prior to the start of this story, so the background information and Carlotta's personal angst over her sister's kidnapping seem extensive. The action and tension increase after the first couple chapters. Overall, the story, told from Carlotta's first-person point of view, has well-developed characters, a steady pace and many twists. Carlotta is a spunky, likable protagonist.

Carlotta is hired to find out
if a young woman's fiance is cheating on her just weeks before her wedding. When the woman is murdered, Carlotta discovers a connection between her death and Carlotta's mob-affiliated boyfriend, Sam Gianelli. While investigating, Carlotta also tries to help her younger sister, who's in therapy after being traumatized by kidnappers. (ST. MARTIN'S MINOTAUR, Aug., 304 pp., $24.95)
