Book Review

A LIFE OF BRIGHT IDEAS
by Sandra Kring

Genre: Mainstream, General Mainstream Fiction

RT Rating

Readers who enjoyed Kring’s first novel featuring Button and Winnalee will be thrilled at their return in this latest book. Familiar characters face new and more mature situations with the same quirky panache they did as children. This compulsively readable book begs to be devoured in a quick gulp, yet it is poignant enough that you’ll want to slowly savor every page.

Evelyn “Button” Peters and Winnalee Malone parted ways nine years ago. Button has moved on with her life, despite the devastating loss of her mother Jewel four years before. Button is sewing clothes and trying to figure out what she wants to do with her life when Winnalee drops back into it. Embracing the hippie movement and still a free spirit, Winnalee is full of energy and love for all. As Button and Winnalee pick up right where they left off, some surprises and revelations force them to make some adult decisions — even when they don’t want to. (BANTAM, Feb., 432 pp., $15.00)
