Fast-paced and clever, with zippy dialogue and suspenseful chase scenes, this lively thriller will leave you breathless and giddy. Don’t worry if this is your introduction to the series; Rozan deftly outlines the characters’ past working relationship so that newcomers and fans alike will understand how high the stakes are. P.I. Bill Smith gets a phone call from someone claiming to have kidnapped his partner, Lydia Chin, sending him off on an elaborate goose chase filled with cryptic clues, taunting phone calls and a dead girl in an abandoned building. The cops assume Smith’s responsible for the latter, and so he’s also on the lam. He’s got help from Lydia’s tech-savvy cousin Linus and Linus’ friend Trella, but time is running out for Lydia.
