Black Fox Vann, a Cherokee Lighthorseman, is on the trail of the Cat, the thief who allegedly steals from the rich and gives to the poor. He finds the Cat running from town with Tassel Glass, the chief bootlegger, hot on his trail.

To his surprise, Black Fox catches the Cat only to discover the thief is a clever young lady bent on revenge. He takes her to his farm to recover and learns that Glass murdered Cathleen O'Sullivan's mother and framed her for the crime. Upon overhearing other bootleggers planning to kill Glass and set up Cat to take the fall, they set up a trap.

This is a romance rich in Native American history. Black Fox and Cat are well-developed characters who come to terms with the past to move toward the future. The secondary characters serve to add color and humor to this lovely romance. SENSUAL (May, 374 pp., $5.99)
