Carmack’s self-published title — now being reissued by Morrow — helped launch the new adult genre, and now we know why! Not only does Bliss’ illicit relationship with Garrick tantalize, but seeing Bliss figure out her life and grow into herself is entertaining and inspiring. Drama-filled theater majors round out the cast for some laughs.

Bliss Edwards is a theater major in her senior year at college, unsure of what to do with her life: act or stage-manage? She’s also a virgin. When Bliss confides in best friend Kelsey that she still has her V-card, Kelsey insists they hit a bar to find a guy right quick. Bliss meets the hot, British (!) Garrick, and things heat up fast, though she’s still conflicted.
