Book Review

by Lucy Dillon

Genre: Mainstream, General Mainstream Fiction

RT Rating

The storyline of this book has several different legs, but there is no clear direction for the plot. With close to 450 pages, the author should have been able to do a better job of constructing the plot. The characters are one-sided and there is no real closure for several of them.

Rachel Fielding has just inherited a house and dog kennels from her late aunt after resigning from her job, giving up her own apartment and ending a 10-year affair with a married man. Her new inheritance brings her into contact with George, a gorgeous but brusque vet; single mom and pushover Zoe; and barren and career-driven Natalie. Through her new friends, both human and canine, Rachel learns that there is more to life than swanky pubs and designer clothes. (BERKLEY, Mar., 448 pp., $15.00)
