Kirkland Ballantyne feels a deep connection to older woman Cassidy Payne. Sutton, his sister-in-law, warns her friend Cassidy away from him, however. Although Kirkland and Sutton were once friends, now there's bad blood between them.

A year passes, and Kirkland becomes a hero when he delivers Cassidy's baby during a car wreck. Delighted that there is no man in her life, Kirkland finds he just can not stay away from this woman he fell in love with at first sight.

In this older-woman, younger-man setup, the importance of family and friendship is paramount, providing a strong basis for a powerful story. White delivers this Ballantyne brother's story with flair. (Apr., 320 pp., $6.99)
