Morgan’s debut novel is a deliciously-written, quip-filled battle of the sexes. Kate and Julian’s rivalry can get kind of silly, even annoying, but their clashing helps keep the story entertaining. Though the tale starts off slowly, there is plenty of humor, especially when Kate decides to needle Julian by getting cozy with his nemesis.

Kate Simmons is a member of the Jane Austen Regency Re-Enactment Society, and thanks to her mischievous friend who made a fiasco of the group’s last event, she now has the thankless task of being in charge of the biggest function of the year. She finds the perfect outdoor venue, but members of the Scottish Highland Society already have plans to use the land for their Highland Games. One of the athletes, Julian Wallace, hopes to land a high-profile sponsorship this year — one that will allow him to provide for his mother and sisters. He and Kate promptly get into a battle of wits and wills. (SAMHAINPUBLISHING.COM, dl $5.50)
