In this anthology, five well-known authors come together to honor lovers of romance and animals. Each of the tales told are special and can easily be read one at a time or consumed all at once. And if by chance stories of passion and four-legged friends don’t entice readers, purchase this book for a pal or a family member, because the authors are donating all of the proceeds to a charitable organization for animal adoption.

In “Mane Haven” by Bennett, tough-as-nails heroine Allison Barrett courageously fights to save her horse rescue farm. Her determination catches the eye of hunky Jake Anderson. In Mann’s “Dog Tags,” gentle Leah Russel offers to take good care of Penny, Sergeant Brody Ward’s dog and best friend. Penny proves to be the glue that helps the pair stick together once they find a love connection. Foster’s “Love Unleashed” features “just friends” Evan Carlisle and Cinder Barrett who rescue a dog and a cat together from the animal shelter. When Evan insists Cinder stay with him at his apartment, things begin to heat up. In Jackson’s “Smookie and the Bandit,” Raquel Capers storms next door to meet her neighbor Quest Newman, whose dog impregnated hers. When she lets slip that she is a phone sex operator, they have quite the conversation. And in DePaul’s “Molly Wants a Hero,” Molly Peterson inherits quite the parrot, who quotes action-movie phrases. When she is rescued from an attacker by Officer Wade King, she finds her hero. (HQN, Mar., 384 pp., $7.99)
