Annie and Joe have a spark between them and some amusing banter, but they jump into a relationship within days of meeting. The characters are thoroughly predictable, and the love/hate at first sight formula feels overdone. While this book is well written, it lacks substance and is tedious in parts.

When Annie Jamison’s mother runs off to pursue her detective business, Annie hops on a plane to Kansas to go find her. The problem is that her mother doesn’t intend to come home until she has solved her first case for Max Kelly. Joe Kelly doesn’t trust Annie, or her mother, and thinks they are plotting against his father. Until Joe and Annie decide to team up to solve the mystery. Then, their improbable alliance quickly turns into an unexpected romance. (SUMMERSIDE, Jun., 320 pp., $12.99)
