Book Review

by Kelly Irvin

Genre: Inspirational, Contemporary Romance

RT Rating

There are several lessons to be learned in the first book of Irvin’s New Hope Amish series. All of the main characters face challenges, ranging from accepting handicaps, postpartum depression and adversity. Although this is a new series, readers should read the Bliss Creek series first to fully understand the characters’ history.

Bethel Graber moves with her sister’s family to New Hope, Mo., in order to establish an Amish community there. Severely injured in an accident prior to the move, she begins physical therapy at a local clinic. On her first day, she meets Shawn McCormack, a disabled veteran and son of the local sheriff. Their friendship causes Bethel problems with her family — and especially with Elijah Christner, her would-be suitor. Will Bethel be able to accept her limitations and open her heart and mind to God’s plan for her? (HARVEST HOUSE, Sep., 352 pp., $13.99)
